  • R A I V O M O D E R N, about the jewelry

    • CLASSIC COLLECTION: I work with a local casting house to pour these designs via the technique of Lost-Wax Casting. My process for creating the pieces varies depending on the nature of the design, but all are either hand-carved in wax or hand-fabricated in metal, cast in either sterling or bronze, and finished with final details in house.

    • RHYTHM & RITUAL: These designs are hand-fabricated using the most basic raw materials: brass, sterling, fine silver or gold sheet and wire are formed and textured using hammers, heat and flame. Many also feature Keum Boo, an ancient technique of marrying high karat gold to pure silver; with heat and pressure the molecules of the two metals intermingle to form a permanent bond.

      • Most items in the CLASSIC COLLECTION and RHYTHM & RITUAL are currently available on a made-to-order basis, please allow 3-4 weeks for their fabrication.

    • ONE OF A KIND / SMALL SERIES: This is a uniquely undulating and evolving collection of designs. Often they involve labor-intensive processes and feature unique stones or organic materials. If a piece is especially calling to you from this collection, it really may have been made just for you. There is a particular sort of magic in these.

  • Materials & Care:

    • Sterling silver, brass and copper all develop a patina over time. This natural patina occurs from a chemical interaction with exposure to oxygen. Some pieces lend themselves well to this look and if you like you can let nature take its course. A number of pieces have been intentionally patinaed as part of the finish, handle these with care to keep the integrity of the patina. Otherwise, to keep the original shine store jewelry in a sealed plastic bag when not wearing and polish with a sunshine cloth on occasion.

    • Many stones like to be cleansed & recharged to maintain their optimum health and vibrancy. Most can be cleansed & recharged in similar ways, but there are exceptions and preferences depending on their structure/constitution. When applicable, more specific details and care instructions are offered in the individual listings.

    • Handle and store all pieces gently to prevent scratches.

    • Put jewelry on after applying any makeup, perfumes or hair products as these can discolor the metal or alter the stones. Remove jewelry when showering and swimming.
